Botox injections for anti-aging

When you hear the word “Botox,” you may think immediately of celebrities using injectables to reduce wrinkles and folds on the face. However, Botox injections are becoming widely available for individuals of all incomes and are no longer only for the Hollywood elite!

Botox injections are used in many areas of medicine, including dentistry, dermatology, and certain medical conditions. At Solay Dental, we are pleased to offer Botox injections for many purposes, allowing our patients to have routine injections performed during their appointments. Drs. Jesus L. Sojo and Shiva Soleimani use Botox for a variety of reasons, including cosmetic and medical purposes.

What is Botox and how does it reduce fine lines and wrinkles?

Botox is a medication known as a neuromodulator. Neuromodulators work through injection into the muscles of the face to reduce contractions and relax them. The results of Botox injections can last several months before reinjection is needed to maintain results.

How is Botox used at Solay Dental?

There are several reasons why our dental team at Solay Dental may integrate Botox injections into a patient’s dental visit:

  • Cosmetic enhancement. Botox is used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the face, giving you a more youthful look. This is because Botox works at reducing muscle contractions. Injecting Botox into the muscles of the face can reduce noticeable wrinkles and folds known as “dynamic wrinkles,” turning back the hands of time.
  • To alleviate TMJ symptoms. If you suffer from teeth grinding or clenching (bruxism), Botox for TMJ can help to relax the muscles in your jaw and ease your discomfort. The injections are administered into the muscles around the jaw joint, or “temporomandibular joint,” to address chronic TMJ/TMD symptoms.
  • Treatment for gummy smiles. By injecting Botox directly into the muscles that control the upper lip, we can minimize the amount of gum tissue shown when you smile. This can create a more esthetically pleasing appearance and eliminate the need for gum contouring treatments that are more invasive.
  • Chronic headaches and migraines. Patients who deal with tension headaches and migraines may be able to achieve relief with Botox injections. Botox can reduce the muscle tension that can cause these headaches, offering relief that lasts several months before reinjection is needed.

What to expect during a Botox Dental Appointment

The entire process takes just a few minutes to complete. First, we will numb the injection site with a local anesthetic. Then, we will carefully administer the Botox where it is needed to get the necessary reaction from the face and head muscles. Botox begins to work within a week and can last several months.
